Singapore Among Top Commercial Property Investors In The US
USA – Singapore, the wealthiest country in Southeast Asia, has been named as one of the top offshore investors in American commercial real estate (CRE), reported The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday morning (9 February, SGT).
The news outlet said that as offshore investors return after travel curbs were relaxed and America’s economy rebounded, foreign investment in United States’ commercial real estate sector has surpassed pre-COVID levels in 2021.
For the whole of last year, overseas pension funds, sovereign-wealth funds and other offshore investors acquired US$70.8 billion worth of commercial properties in the United States.
This was the highest tally since the US$94.6 billion recorded in 2018 and it exceeded 2020’s figure by almost 2-fold, according to statistics from Real Capital Analytics (RCA), a provider of market intelligence in the CRE industry.
RCA revealed that the top foreign investors in US commercial properties last year were those from Canada, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
Including local commercial real estate investors, these offshore groups helped push the overall commercial real estate transaction in the United states to record highs.
