Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy) Rating

Shaw Tower, Singapore’s 1st Grade A Office Bldg To Get Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy) Rating

SINGAPORE – The new Shaw Tower, which is under construction, has obtained the Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy) rating under the latest 2021 benchmark from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), reported The Edge on Thursday afternoon (29 December, SGT).

This makes the upcoming commercial property the first Grade A office building in Singapore to receive this coveted certification. Under plans announced last year, 80 percent of new developments here by gross floor area (GFA) will need to be Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy) certified from 2030.

The new Shaw Tower is expected to achieve energy savings of over 60 percent thanks to its eco-friendly features. These include smart Internet of Things (IoT) lighting, advanced hybrid air-conditioning system and rooftop solar photovoltaic panels that comes with a wind turbine.

The office property will also leverage on smart facilities management systems to monitor and automatically adjust lighting and indoor air quality to attain optimal energy efficiency and thermal comfort. To enhance workplace strategy, the systems will also keep track of real-time building occupancy & space utilisation.

The new Shaw Tower will also be equipped with high-performance air filtration and sterilisation systems supported by Indoor Air Quality monitoring systems.

Amenities in the commercial property include a gym, end-of-trip facilities, and 15,700 sq ft of retail space, including a rooftop restaurant.

Moreover, the new Shaw Tower is also the 1st building under construction in Asia to obtain the WiredScore Platinum award, the highest rating that recognises the development’s superb digital connectivity and future-ready workplace.

It’s also the 1st high-rise Grade A commercial building under development in Singapore to be pre-certified by the International WELL Building Institute, with a target rating of WELL v2 Core Gold.

Furthermore, the commercial property is also an ABC Waters-certified development by Singapore’s Public Utilities Board thanks to the building’s verdant cascading gardens that covers its podium and the 2 sky terraces at the top and midpoint of the building.
