Ocean Financial Centre Bags Prestigious Health & Safety Rating

SINGAPORE – The Ocean Financial Centre, a 43-storey Grade A office tower within the Downtown Core area, is the first commercial property in the city-state that obtained the WELL Health-Safety Rating from the New York-based International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), announced its owner Keppel REIT in a recent Singapore Exchange (SGX) filing.

The rating recognises its implementation of robust health and safety measures For instance, the 876,000 sq ft commercial property was among the 1st buildings in Singapore’s central business district (CBD) to implement a pandemic response plan, including temperature checks, isolation procedures, and tenant communication, just as the first infection was reported here.

The Ocean Financial Centre is also equipped with a high-tech air filtration system – with three layers of filters including MERV 14 and ultraviolet-C (UVC) lighting system – that can kill bacteria and viruses.

“To ensure high water quality, the monitoring of the property’s water management systems has been stepped up during the pandemic, with the water tank thoroughly cleansed and flushed to avoid any build-up of bacteria due to lower usage as a result of increased telecommuting,” said Keppel REIT in the SGX filing.

“To facilitate contactless entry and safe distancing, various measures including the re‐ programming of lift destination control systems, as well as the use of a robot, RoboGuard, that patrols the premises to remind tenants & visitors of safe distancing measures.”

Apart from providing hand sanitisers at common areas, the building’s manager also sped up the frequency of disinfection of often touched surfaces. This is complemented by the utilisation of antimicrobial disinfectant coating on lift buttons and toilet door handles, as well as taking advantage of UVC light on escalator handrails.

Situated at the intersection of the Raffles Place & Marina Bay precincts, the Ocean Financial Centre obtained its Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) in 2011. While the majority of its premises are office space, its ground floor and basement levels contain retail outlets, including various amenities and restaurants.
Connected to Raffles Place MRT interchange and the Marina Bay precinct via an underground pedestrian network, the office space at Ocean Financial Centre comes with a high floor to ceiling height of about 2.8m. The building also has spacious column-free floor plates measuring from 20,000 sq ft to 25,000 sq ft.

In 2019, the commercial property received the Green Mark Platinum Award from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
