Compulsory Vaccination

Compulsory Vaccination For Office Workers In Hong Kong

HONG KONG – The local authorities plan to expand mandatory vaccination to workplaces and learning institutions, as the Chinese territory joins other places seeking to beef up protection against the Omicron variant, reported Bloomberg on Tuesday (28 December, SGT), citing a report from Cable TV.

At present, the compulsory vaccination already applies to people working in clubs, bars, bathhouses, karaoke parlors and some restaurants, said the news outlet on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

Nonetheless, authorities in Hong Kong will grant exemptions to those with existing medical conditions as backed by valid medical certificates, stated Cable TV, without providing additional information.

Meanwhile, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported separately that the government intends to require cargo aircrew to undergo hotel quarantine, in addition to expanding the vaccine mandate to schools.

The news outlet also revealed that the local authorities will discuss Hong Kong’s COVID-19 situation during a press conference later on Tuesday.

However, the Hong Kong government did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the reports.
