Asia Pacific Office Attendance

Asia Pacific Office Attendance Double That Of US, Europe

ASIA PACIFIC – Newly published data from Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) showed that amidst a global return to office, workers in Asia Pacific spent more time at their workplace than their American and European peers during the first six months of the year, reported The Edge on Tuesday evening (5 December, SGT).

On average, employees in the region worked more than four days per week in the office in H1 2023 compared to just two days for staff based in Europe and the United States.

In particular, Taiwan leads the office attendance in Asia Pacific with personnel there spending 4.7 days a week in their workplace on average. This is followed by India (4.4 days), South Korea (4.2 days), Japan (3.8 days), and Singapore (3.4 days). Thailand registered a weekly office attendance of 3.3 days, while Australian workers were spending only 3.1 days in the office.

JLL disclosed that on average, workers across the globe spend just over three days per week in their workplace, with peak attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The real estate consultancy noted that the difference in office attendance across different markets is mainly due to a mix of cultural nuances, living arrangements, and other societal/structural factors.

The property consultancy’s year-long survey, which involved more than 20,000 employees across the globe, revealed that 80 percent of the respondents were spending at least three days in the office during the first half of the year versus 51 percent in H2 2022.

JLL pointed out that “overall, most international organisations globally (87 percent) are encouraging their employees to work from the office at least some of the time.”

In contrast, the real estate consultancy found out that only 20 percent of the surveyed staff either worked remotely full time or only worked in the office two days per week in H1 2023. That’s significantly down from the rate (39 percent) recorded during the same period last year.
